Local culture

Some places have a definite personality, a strong sense of location, history, and identity. And some places have little to distinguish them: you could just as easily live somewhere else, and you wouldn't notice the difference.

What about where you live? Is there a local culture and sense of identity? Does it mean something when you say, "I'm from _____"?
